The head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IGRC) Quds Force, Esmail Ghaani, spoke with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh at the weekend.

They discussed the latest developments in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Iran is thought to be watching developments closely, and is likely advising Hamas on its tactics.

The meeting came as part of an Iranian regional push to support Hamas, including pro-Iran leader Hadi al-Amiri in Iraq expressing his support for the terrorist group that runs Gaza.
Turkey and Iranian-backed groups like Hebzollah and Houthi rebels in Yemen likewise voiced their support for Hamas’s war against Israel.

Iranian media has recently published unprecedented commentary on Israel’s air defence systems, claiming that the Iron Dome is showing new vulnerabilities.

In the discussion between Haniyeh, the IRGC commander “reiterated the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the Palestinian nation and the Palestinian resistance in the face of the incessant aggression and crimes of the Zionist enemy”.

Ghaani praised Hamas for the more than 3,000 rockets it has fired indiscriminately at Israel in more than a week of conflict.
