LFI chair writes to Foreign Secretary on Iraqi anti-Israel legislation

LFI chair Steve McCabe MP has today called on Foreign Secretary Liz Truss to demand Iraq scrap legislation that would impose the death penalty for “contact and communication of any kind” with Israel and Israelis.

Instead, he called for the Foreign Secretary to use the UK’s “deep and longstanding ties with both Israel and Iraq” to encourage Iraq to “look to its neighbours in the UAE and Bahrain for an alternative path” in its relations with Israel, “based on mutual respect, economic and trade cooperation, and people-to-people connections”.
