LFI chair Joan Ryan MP welcomes US bill in support of the International Fund for Israeli-Palestinian peace

LFI chair Joan Ryan has welcomed the introduction of a new bill in the US Congress which raises the prospect of a significant boost to the international campaign to fund coexistence projects in Israel and Palestine.

Congressmen Jeff Fortenberry and Joe Crowley introduced the bill in the US House of Representatives to establish American leadership in creating a grant-making body to facilitate enduring people-to-people relationships and sustained joint economic development.

The legislative push follows LFI chair Joan Ryan’s introduction of a 10 minute rule bill urging the UK government to make contributions to the proposed fund. Ms Ryan visited Washington last year to gain support for the Alliance for Middle East Peace’s proposed fund.

Commenting on the new US legislation, Ms. Ryan said: “I am delighted that Congressmen Fortenberry and Crowley are reintroducing their bill in support of the International Fund for Israeli-Palestinian Peace. In both Britain and the United States, there is bipartisan momentum in favour of an idea whose time has truly come.”
